La. 5th Cir. orders responding to COVID-19

The Louisiana Fifth Circuit has issued some orders the last few days responding to the COVID-19 emergency. In reverse chronological order:

  • March 16, 2020: An order tightly restricting access to the courthouse by:
    • Strongly encouraging filing electronically, by fax, or by mail.
    • Requiring drop-box filing for anyone who finds it necessary to file in person.
    • Directing persons who want to physically view appellate record or exhibits to contact the clerk of court for instruction.
  • March 14, 2020: Basically the same orders as March 16, except for an additional provision temporarily waiving the convenience fee for e-filing.
  • March 13, 2020: An order directing non-essential employees to stay home or work from home, and for essential employees to “report to work in crews as directed by their supervisor.”
