If, like me, you have some sins to atone for, here are a few things you can do toward that end between now and the end of the year:
- Feed the hungry. Write a check to your local food bank. If you don’t have a food bank in your neighborhood, then write a check to Feeding America, formerly known as America’s Second Harvest.
- Shelter the homeless. New Orleans has an inordinate number of homeless people. To help them out, write a check to Ozanam Inn.
- Visit a prisoner. If you don’t happen to know anyone in Angola, you can still participate in Amnesty International’s Holiday Card Action:
Each year during the winter holidays, Amnesty International asks friends and members to send messages of support to prisoners and human rights defenders around the world. Holidays can mean little to those who fear they've been forgotten by the world. A simple greeting card, however, can bring renewed hope. The prisoners and human rights defenders featured here need your support. Please let them know they are not forgotten.
