Trying out a new design
I’ve done some remodeling here at Minor Wisdom. I re-arranged the layout to put both sidebars on the right side, so that the newest post will appear in the upper left corner—the first place people usually look at on a computer screen. To speed up page loading, I deleted a couple of things features from the sidebar. (If you miss them, let me know. If you don’t, that tells me they didn’t need to be there in the first place.) Finally, I installed a new design, a prefab by TypePad called “Minimalist Red,” which I’ve also installed at my other blog.

I like the red... and I like putting the most recent post up front and on the left where people will see it first. Not sure about the double columns on the right--it's a lot of info over there. But since I read in a newsreader 95% of the time, I'm probably not representative of a typical visitor. :)

I tried going with a two-column layout once: one column for posts and one sidebar. Trouble was that a lot of sidebar material either had to be cut or ended up way down on the page. So I went back to two sidebars, one on left and one on right, which I admit looks more balanced than two sidebars on one side. But two-on-the-right is functional, and assuming pages load left to right, it should allow the posts to load faster, so that you can start reading them while the rest of the page is still loading.
Actually I've been using this layout (two sidebars at right) for several months now on “The (New) Legal Writer.” It took a little getting used to, but after I got used to it, I started liking it.
