Res ipsa loquitur (It speaks for itself)
Laying in bed this morning after the clock radio went off, I listened to an interview with Tom DeLay on NPR. It seems his goal, while in office, was to establish a one-party government. For instance:
- He candidly admitted that one of his goals was to establish a “permanent Republican majority.”
- As far as he was concerned, Democrats need not apply to the government for redress of grievances. “If you wanted to bring your petition to the government,” he said, “you should send somebody who believes the same things we do.”
- On the idea of meeting with a Democrat: “Why would I want to meet with an enemy? Why would I meet with somebody who wanted to make me the minority whip and keep me from being the majority whip?” When the interviewer suggested, “because he’s an American with an interest,” DeLay responded, “He’s not an American with my interest, or the interest of the agenda we’re trying to promote.”
When asked why he would not plea-bargain the charges against him, the man who led the impeachment of President Clinton answered (with no trace of irony), “It’s incumbent on me to fight the politics of personal destruction that I’ve been living through for twelve years.”

I heard that one too... It left me wondering, was he that delusional *before* Washington? Or does Washington do that to people?

He's a bad bad man. How he got that way is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing it has a lot more to do with his upbringing than he cares to admit.
