(New Orleans, La.) –Despite a strong cast of competition and possibility of criminal charges being lodged against Congressman William Jefferson by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Jefferson campaign announced the support of dozens of local elected officials, ministers and community and labor leaders in his re-election campaign for the 2nd Congressional District.

The ministers should lose their tax-exempt status! They openly endorse Jefferson and other candidates and preach from the pulpit instructing the congregation who to vote for. There was an outcry to take away the tax-exempt status of the diocese after the Bishop's comment about not voting for candidates that support abortion. Then there's the IRS threatening a california church for an anti-war sermon, yet it does nothing against "Bishop" Paul Morton and others who blatantly ignore the prohibition against churches and non-profits engaging in politics
